Achieving Goals Without Premature Announcements

Chapter 1: The Pitfalls of Announcing Goals
As I sat down to share my goals for September, I paused to reflect on past instances where I publicly declared various projects and ambitions. Unfortunately, I often fell short of fulfilling those commitments. Sharing my intentions didn’t bolster my accountability, nor did it motivate me to take action. In fact, it reminded me of the phrase “dopamine you didn’t earn.” When you talk about your plans, receiving praise from others gives you a fleeting sense of accomplishment. This rush of dopamine can be deceptive, leading to a false sense of progress without any actual effort.
The reality is, I find the idea of my future achievements much more appealing than the hard work required to realize them. Taking action is challenging, and the outcomes rarely align with the idealized visions I conjure in my mind.
This September, I am setting forth with specific commitments: four daily practices and two output goals. There's a chance I might not succeed, as my self-discipline has faltered in the past. However, I do have a structured approach this time, utilizing a spreadsheet to organize my content ideas and a strategy to batch my efforts. Yet, I understand that without dedication, no amount of planning will yield results.
It's time for me to roll up my sleeves and earn that dopamine through tangible accomplishments.
