Exploring the World of Podcasting Tech
When you think of a technology podcast, the word “nerd” might spring to mind, but that would be a misconception when it comes to Mathew Passy, the creator and host of the Podcasting Tech Podcast. Passy effortlessly balances being in front of the microphone with managing the technical aspects of podcasting. He possesses a charming blend of humor, clarity, and sharp insight.
In addition to his on-air charisma, Passy is a true enthusiast for audio and video technology, boasting an impressive level of expertise that rivals the best in the field. Podcasting Tech stands out as one of the premier shows focusing on podcasting technologies, industry trends, and optimizing your audio content.
In a recent episode featuring Pat Cheung, the founder of Fanlist (previously known as PodInbox), they delved into the transformation of his company and its innovative approach to connecting podcasters with their audiences. Fanlist streamlines how podcasters can effortlessly gather audio messages from their fans, serving as an excellent monetization avenue.
Mathew Passy emphasized, “In this episode, we delve into the motivation behind the creation of Fanlist, its progression over time, and the groundbreaking features it provides for podcasters seeking to build stronger relationships with their listeners. Those looking to boost fan interaction and explore new ways to connect with their communities should listen in on this fascinating discussion.”
In another enlightening episode, Robert Tuchman, co-founder of Amaze Media Labs, introduced Trailergram, a cutting-edge platform designed to enhance audience connection and broaden the reach of podcasts. They acknowledged that discoverability and audience building are universal challenges faced by podcasters. Traditional advertising often fails to meet the mark in podcast promotion as it overlooks a crucial element—the ability to listen.
They explored how Trailergram functions and why it stands out as a potentially game-changing method for getting a podcast in front of a larger, targeted audience.
Mathew Passy brings years of experience in both radio and podcasting to the table. Originally from East Brunswick, New Jersey, he earned a B.S. in Media Management and Sociology from the University of Miami and holds a Media Arts Center Degree in TV and Radio Broadcasting from the esteemed Connecticut School of Broadcasting.
Throughout his career, Mathew has worked with the Wall Street Journal and in radio, where he was instrumental in spearheading early podcasting initiatives. For eight years, he operated The Podcast Consultant, guiding the successful creation, launch, and growth of a thriving podcast production company, which ultimately led to a strategic acquisition by a marketing agency.
Additionally, Passy founded Suite Recording, an advanced audio and video recording facility in South Jersey, which has gained a reputation for serving a diverse clientele within the region's dynamic podcasting community.
After the announcement of the Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards in July, Mathew invited me to discuss the awards on his Podcasting Tech show. I arrived at Suite Recording on July 22, located in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, just east of Philadelphia.
Suite Recording is a beautifully designed space, thoughtfully curated for both audio and video podcasting. Joe Gangemi, co-owner of Suite Recording, warmly welcomed me and shared insights into the studio's technical and architectural features.
Mathew was a considerate host, making me feel at home and relaxed. We shared a few moments before the interview, and our conversation continued after the recording. Mathew Passy is innovating the podcasting landscape—both audio and video—by utilizing mobile recording technology, a podcast beacon, and other advancements that make podcasting more accessible. I learned from Mathew and Joe that South Jersey is home to a vibrant podcasting community.
Throughout the interview, Passy’s insightful remarks added a lively dimension to our conversation. My experience, thanks to Mathew and Joe, was both positive and enjoyable.
As a host, Passy adeptly guides discussions with his guests, probing for the insights he believes his audience craves. When addressing podcast technology, he provides listeners with affordable solutions that prioritize user-friendly design over complexity.
At the end of each episode, Passy poses the question to his guests: “If you could, what would you change about podcasting?”
Be sure to tune into Podcasting Tech. It’s an invaluable resource for both aspiring and seasoned podcasters looking to elevate their shows. For podcast enthusiasts, the program offers great insights thanks to Passy’s keen understanding of podcast content and emerging tech trends.
