This sentiment reflects our current relationship with AI. We often see our own reflections—our fears, insecurities, aspirations, and dreams—projected onto these machines. If we feel insecure or replaceable, we fear that machines will amplify those feelings. Conversely, if we harbor a sense of optimism, we might envision machines granting us immortality. However, this projection reveals little about the actual capabilities of AI.

Consequently, in modern films, robots are often portrayed as machines of thought. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that these machines are created by humans, who are inherently storytellers.

As I observe him work, I’m struck by how realistic the game appears when it’s operational—boasting stunning textures, impressive physics, and fluid animations. Although machines may excel in certain narrowly defined tasks, feeling threatened by them is akin to fearing cars simply because we can’t run 90 MPH. Speed is merely one aspect of our vast capabilities.

While the possibility of AI surpassing human intelligence looms on the horizon, anyone claiming a specific timeline for its arrival is likely misleading. For instance, the expectation of fully functional robots in the 1960s was overly ambitious. The complexity of perceiving reality has proven far more challenging than anticipated.

While it can create visually appealing works based on established patterns, it falters when tasked with producing a piece that embodies the essence of AI. Art demands context—biological, evolutionary, historical, and personal—and AI lacks the capability to provide that depth.

Finally, let’s discuss how AI assisted me in outlining my novel. I input the title, a brief synopsis, and the intended tone. After providing some key plot points to guide the AI, I let it generate ideas.

What emerged was a mix of brilliance and absurdity. Occasionally, it stumbled upon significant plot elements, while at other times, it took bizarre detours that showcased its inability to adapt dynamically to the narrative's needs. It resembled a cat attempting to play the piano—sometimes striking the right notes but often missing the mark.

While it was fascinating to observe the AI aligning with insights I had developed over years, I had to act as the judge. Without my experience, I wouldn’t have discerned which suggestions were valuable and which were not. At this stage, it feels more like a novelty than a reliable tool.

Section 2.3: The Potential of AI as a Writing Aid

Currently, the AI's output is hit or miss, with a success rate of about 20%. For me, it’s still quicker to write the text myself. However, I remain open to the possibility that one day it may streamline my writing process.

As for the idea of it replacing me? I’m confidently asserting that I’m not worried about that. Challenge accepted!
