Chapter 1: The Call of Solitude

As I navigate a path devoid of footprints, I find myself enveloped in an overgrown landscape that is both enchanting and bewildering. In the year since I completed my degree, I've been faced with a multitude of directions, each whispering its own invitation.

In my quest for clarity, I've turned to the wisdom of great thinkers and creatives. This exploration has led me to prioritize two key practices:

1. Reading with Intent: After abandoning my ambitious 5 AM productivity regimen, I’ve committed to a more achievable routine. I now dedicate about an hour each morning to reading a diverse range of materials, from Atomic Habits to the exquisite prose of Amor Towles's A Gentleman in Moscow.
2. Philosophical Engagement: Alongside my reading, I delve into philosophical texts, which enrich my understanding just as much as watching insightful YouTube content. Research shows that true happiness often stems from deeply engaging with meaningful subjects. For me, this means immersing myself in literature, art, and enriching conversations.

Recently, I read Letters to a Young Poet, a collection of letters from Rainer Maria Rilke to fellow poet Franz Kappus from the early 1900s. Rilke shares profound reflections on devotion, love, wisdom, and creativity, written with a remarkable depth of feeling.

Rilke's insights on solitude and the work ethic particularly resonate with me. Despite being only 27 at the time of writing, his observations reveal truths that many take years to grasp.
