Chapter 1: My Journey into Tech Writing

It has been a little over a year since I began my role as a DevOps Engineer at a small service-oriented company with around 70 employees. Choosing to work in a smaller firm has significantly accelerated my learning curve compared to larger multinational corporations.

During this time, I gained hands-on experience with various in-demand technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services, Jenkins, and Terraform. However, it wasn’t just the environment that facilitated my rapid learning; it was my drive to excel and achieve something remarkable that propelled me forward.

Recently, I successfully completed the Certified Kubernetes Administrator exam, and I am on track to obtain the AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification by the end of this month. When applying for new positions, I often find that recruiters are surprised by the breadth of my experience in just 12 months, given the technologies I’ve engaged with.

A few months into my job, I began documenting my learning journey and decided to share my insights through articles on Medium. So far, I have published 30 pieces out of the 140 I planned, focusing on tech topics, particularly programming and DevOps.

The longer they read, the more likely my articles were to generate revenue.

This article has garnered around 9,000 views, earning me $125 over its lifespan, which I believe is impressive, especially considering the competitive nature of this niche.

My primary objective is to produce more content like this in the upcoming months, increasing my earnings while providing valuable insights to my audience. I’m curious about how much others in this niche earn; it’s likely that articles with programming tricks can go viral more easily.
