Chapter 1: The Challenge Begins

In mid-2022, I embarked on a personal challenge unlike any I'd faced before. With a colleague by my side, I committed to completing 150 pushups daily for an entire year, amounting to a staggering total of 54,750 pushups! This meant dedicating myself for 365 consecutive days—no exceptions. Should I miss a single day, I'd have to restart from scratch.

My motivation stemmed from a desire for self-improvement across various aspects of life, including my work, personal relationships, and overall health. Each month, I aimed to adopt a new habit that would facilitate my growth. For instance, I wrote an article daily on Medium in January, walked a mile every day in February, and performed two-minute planks throughout March. By April, I had chosen pushups as my daily exercise, which ultimately proved to be the most beneficial for my mental well-being, leading me to sustain it for an entire year.

Every day, regardless of my mood, I pushed myself to complete those pushups. I wanted to explore just how consistent one could truly be! Although I believed I could stick with it for the full year, I was well aware that it wouldn't be a walk in the park. And let me tell you—it was anything but easy. However, I gradually learned to accept the challenges that came my way; sometimes, that acceptance is all one can do.

One effective strategy I adopted was keeping my yoga mat next to my bed, ensuring I would see it first thing in the morning and be compelled to do my pushups. This helped me train my brain to instinctively drop down and complete a set as soon as I woke up. I found that starting my day with pushups set a positive tone for everything that followed.

Consistency is the key to achieving any goal. If you can remain committed, there's virtually nothing you can't accomplish! The rewards of my commitment were evident: I increased my muscle mass, inspired my colleagues to strive for improvement, and experienced significant personal and professional growth. On tough days, simply checking off my pushups provided a rush of endorphins, often being the sole accomplishment I felt proud of. I found comfort in knowing I had completed my 150 pushups.

Moreover, this pushup routine instilled the discipline that translated into all areas of my life, contributing to my best year both financially and spiritually, as well as yielding unexpected benefits.
