The Mysterious Disappearances of Medium's Writers

Chapter 1: A Vanishing Act
Have you noticed the trend of writers seemingly disappearing from Medium? If you're here due to my tag, I want to greet you and inquire: why did you stop contributing after putting in so much effort? Something peculiar is unfolding on this platform, and I’m not the only one who has noticed.
The phenomenon lurks in the background, surfacing only when another author suddenly becomes untraceable. They slip into the abyss of the lost, never to return.
My Observations
For about five months, I've been active on Medium, and during this time, I've observed numerous individuals abruptly halt their publishing activities and fade away. Whether they were established figures or newcomers, it appears many writers have vanished, some without leaving a trace, while others’ profiles seem to have stalled as if a train had derailed, now left to decay in silence.
While composing this piece, I was struck to see that some authors, who previously boasted over 4,000 followers, have completely disappeared. They are now untaggable, untraceable, and invisible. But where have they gone?
I recall specific writers who seem to have vanished: Fabian, Bob Kosse, Aurõra, Love, and Wshakes. Those who remain elusive include Cipher Max and Chef Chuckle. These were individuals whose work I regularly enjoyed before they ceased to publish. Undoubtedly, there are many more whose names I haven't mentioned.
However, this enigmatic trend might pave the way for new opportunities.
The Cycle of Writers
Just as trees shed their dead leaves, new ones must emerge to take their place. Similarly, as some writers exit, it opens doors for both emerging and existing authors to fill the void.
I recognize that some individuals may have had no choice but to step away or perhaps migrated to different platforms. If that’s the case, I wish them well on their new journeys. Life marches on relentlessly, and we must keep pace with it.
One thing remains certain: writers typically don’t stop writing!
Is Medium facing extinction? Absolutely not. A multitude of new individuals join daily, eager to share their narratives with the world.
My recommendation? Have a clear vision of your goals, relish the writing journey, commit for as long as you can, and avoid becoming overly fixated on the statistics.
Wrap Up
In conclusion, it’s not that Medium is dying; it’s simply the perpetual cycles of writers who call this space home. The number of authors fluctuates, influenced by personal circumstances and aspirations. It is up to those of us who remain to decide whether we will fill the gaps left by those who have departed.
