Why Not Consider the 14 or 14 Plus?

In my view, there isn’t a significant difference between these models and their predecessors. They continue to utilize last year's chip and retain the notch design. For me, the 14 or 14 Plus doesn't present a compelling reason to upgrade from my current device.

Contrarily, the 14 Pro offers several enticing features that influenced my decision to pre-order it immediately.

Camera Enhancements

As is customary with new models, we can expect significant camera upgrades. The new 48-megapixel camera is a substantial improvement, though full functionality will require shooting in ProRaw. On the video front, the introduction of an action mode helps stabilize shots, eliminating the need for a gimbal. Cinematic Mode sees some updates too, including filming in 4K HDR at 24 fps. While I typically don’t shoot in 4K, I am keen to explore the new camera system for capturing photos and short videos for platforms like Instagram and YouTube Shorts.

Next-Gen Chip

Unlike the standard iPhone 14, the 14 Pro is equipped with the new A16 Bionic Chip. This upgrade focuses on power efficiency and battery longevity, enabling the Always-On Display to function while maintaining great battery life. While I don’t delve deeply into chip specifications, the key takeaway is that we have a more advanced processor.

Final Thoughts

In terms of hardware, the changes may not seem drastic, as the design remains largely the same aside from the new pill cutout. However, the features mentioned above compelled me to act quickly when pre-orders became available.

Other notable aspects include an impressive display brightness of up to 2000 nits, making it easy to view outdoors, and crash detection, which, while nice, isn’t a primary reason to choose a phone.

With the rollout of iOS 16, features such as the Always-On Display will be enhanced with customizable lock screen widgets. Though Apple products aren't known for being affordable, loyal fans who upgrade annually will likely appreciate these new additions. Ultimately, the decision to upgrade is personal and hinges on whether the new features are worth your investment. For me, the answer is a resounding yes!
