Increase Your Social Media Following with Clubhouse and Amazon's Strategy

Chapter 1: The Power of Clubhouse
Since January 27, 2021, I have experienced a remarkable surge in followers across all my social media channels. By implementing Amazon’s Flywheel strategy, I gained over 4,000 followers in less than two months. My adaptability allowed me to thrive on the new Clubhouse app, leading to a substantial increase in traffic to my social media accounts, particularly Twitter and Instagram.
However, merely having an effective marketing tool is not sufficient; it must be combined with a robust strategy. Amazon's Flywheel approach stands out as an excellent method for driving traffic. This strategy, which has significantly contributed to Amazon's success, revolves around enhancing customer experiences to attract more sellers to the platform.
When more third-party sellers utilize the platform, the variety of products increases, which ultimately leads to improved customer experiences—a cycle that perpetuates itself.
In a previous post, I discussed how this remarkable strategy can be tailored for writers looking to grow their following:

Chapter 2: Reinventing the Flywheel for Social Media
But how can we apply this concept to attract social media followers from Clubhouse? Let’s redefine the Flywheel for social media—this time, we’ll visualize it as a two-way interaction.
Participating in Clubhouse discussions allows attendees to view your profile and any linked social media accounts. As you speak, others cannot scroll past you, ensuring that your words capture their attention. Remember, it’s essential to engage without dominating the conversation.
Join rooms of varying sizes and contribute thoughtfully to discussions, as this is your chance to build your follower base on Clubhouse.
Section 2.1: Hosting and Moderating Rooms
Once you feel comfortable navigating the platform, consider hosting and moderating your own discussions. As a moderator, you will be the first person newcomers see, allowing you to welcome them and guide the conversation.
Regularly remind attendees of the room's objectives—a practice known as "resetting the room" in Clubhouse terminology. This is also an excellent opportunity to promote your upcoming sessions, business ventures, or your talents.
As your followers join your room, their followers will also gain exposure to your content. If they find your discussions engaging, they may choose to follow you, creating a ripple effect that boosts your visibility.
Section 2.2: Encouraging Cross-Platform Engagement
To transition followers from Clubhouse to your other social media profiles, interaction is key. I’ve discovered effective strategies for directing users to my Instagram account:
- When someone mentions a book or a link, I invite them to DM me the information on Instagram.
- In larger discussions, I request that participants send their questions via Instagram for us to address them, particularly when the room is too crowded for everyone to speak.
- Utilize Instagram Stories to enhance the topics discussed in your Clubhouse rooms. For instance, if we summarize a plan during a session, we can share that summary on our Stories. We once provided a reading list for a recent book club through Instagram.
- Lastly, I encourage attendees to follow me on Instagram for updates on future Clubhouse sessions, providing a link to add events to their calendars.
As Clubhouse continues to gain traction, it presents a fantastic opportunity for networking and expanding your follower base across all social media platforms.
While the longevity of Clubhouse's popularity remains uncertain, it is currently one of the most exciting new apps for smartphones. For those eager to learn more about Clubhouse and its potential as a marketing tool in 2021, I recommend checking out this post:
