Achieving Writing Consistency: 3 Essential Mindsets
Written on
Chapter 1: Celebrating Milestones
I’m thrilled to share that I have successfully published over 200 articles on Medium, earned my first $500 through writing, and completed 231 days of consistent online writing. However, this achievement would not have been possible without consistency. If you aspire to publish regularly, consider these three mindsets to enhance your writing routine.
Section 1.1: Start Small
When I embarked on my writing journey, I had no prior experience. Could I have realistically published 30 articles a month from the very beginning? Absolutely not. In my inaugural month, I managed to release just 4 articles. The following month, that number increased to 11, then 30 in the third month, and finally, 42 in the fourth month.
If you're feeling disheartened about your progress, remember that it’s perfectly okay to start with only a few articles each month. It’s also normal not to have identified your niche right away, or to see your first article earn nothing. The essential thing is to think big, aim for improvement, and take small, manageable steps.
Subsection 1.1.1: Embrace Your Journey
Section 1.2: Stop Comparing Yourself
In my early days, my progress felt akin to a go-kart racing slowly. By my second month, I had only earned $1.71, which seemed minuscule compared to other writers’ earnings. Yet, I remained unfazed because I chose not to compare my journey with theirs. Instead, I concentrated on my own improvement.
The outcome? I’m still actively writing after 231 days. So, if you find yourself feeling down while looking at others’ accomplishments, it’s time to shift your focus away from comparisons.
Chapter 2: Focus on Improvement
This video titled "231 DAYS | Official Trailer" captures the essence of my writing journey and the commitment it takes to reach milestones. It showcases the dedication needed for consistent writing.
Earnings in writing can be erratic, which can lead to feelings of disappointment when targets are not met. This is why many individuals give up. However, by concentrating on improvement, you can redefine what success means:
- Writing more swiftly equates to a victory.
- Gaining new insights into writing techniques is a win.
- Crafting articles that effectively address readers' challenges is a triumph.
When you prioritize your growth over financial outcomes, the journey itself becomes a rewarding experience.
Bonus Section: The Mental Game
After eight months, I’ve discovered that writing is composed of 80% mindset and only 20% strategy. The good news? Understanding this 80% has allowed me to sustain my writing for 231 days and surpass 200 articles.
However, here are some strategic tips to further enhance your productivity:
- Consider writing in batches to maximize efficiency.
- Remember that headlines and introductions comprise 80% of your articles’ effectiveness; their success hinges on these elements.
- Your articles should serve as a solution to readers’ problems; your objective is to provide value and satisfaction.
Consistency doesn’t necessitate daily publishing; rather, it involves adhering to a planned schedule. Achieving a consistent high-quality output requires substantial input, such as reading books.
